Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation _00

I’ve been reading so many reviews regarding today’s product, people had some mixed opinions on the Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation – being as curious as I am I decided to visit my favourite Dischem store in Canal Walk and finally found a shade that somewhat matches my skin tone.

Catrice claims : “the HD Liquid Coverage Foundation offers a high but natural-looking coverage, while feeling extremely lightweight – just like a second skin. Whilst providing a smooth and even complexion, the ultra-liquid texture is extremely high performing and long-lasting. It covers imperfections up to 24 Hours and mattifies the skin. The extremely high definition finish is sure to make the skin beautifully even and camera ready.”

Now for my thoughts, I have used other Catrice foundations and I really enjoyed it! My main concern with Catrice foundations are that in South Africa there are just not a wide enough selection of shades to choose from – they seem to mainly cater for lighter skin ladies which is not great if you ask me. South African ladies have a wide array of skin tones and I feel that Catrice needs to cater for us as well. I picked up the darkest shade I could find which is shade 040 in Warm Beige. This is the darkest shade I came across at Dischem, I have checked online and it does seem like this foundation only comes in four shades 010 Light Beige, 020 Rose Beige, 030 Sand Beige and 040 Warm Beige.

The darkest shade 040 Warm Beige is actually about 1 or 2 shades too light for me, so I have to mix it with another foundation which is not ideal. The coverage is amazing, that is what I come to love about Catrice foundations, this one is buildable and it feels light weight. Because I have really dry skin I found that this foundation is really mattifying – which doesn’t work well with my skin type as I do have more of a combination to dry skin type. I would definitely suggest using a hydrating primer if you have drier skin – for oily skin ladies you will love this foundation. For me it just made my skin look really cakey. The dropper is also not ideal and easy to use, I found that because the foundation is very liquidy substance the dropper just leaked the product all over – so you do have to be careful when using this.

Here are a list of pro’s and con’s that might help you decide whether this foundation will be a good match for you.

Pro’s

  • It has amazing coverage.
  • Stunning glass bottle packaging.
  • Perfect for oily skin ladies, mattifying and long-lasting foundation.
  • Affordable

Con’s

  • Limited shade selection.
  • Dropper is poorly designed.
  • Not ideal for ladies with dry skin.

So yeah I hope this was helpful for you ladies who have been wondering whether to purchase this foundation, in my opinion Catrice has better foundations in their range that will suit my skin type and that has a better shade match. These do retail for R135 which you can purchase from Dischem or Takealot stores.

this foundation had so much potential! sucks about the dropper :/ I might need to try it though as I have oily skin and it might work well, ignoring the applicator.

    • Yeah this definitely is perfect for oily skin, glad it worked for you.

  • That’s what I always had a problem with Candice…shade selection. Plus that dropper does get messy. Glad it worked for you. Great review.

    • Shade selection sucks if you have medium skin I’ve tried so many brands and it’s always a problem

  • It sounds like a great skin for those that don’t have dry skin! I love the bottle, it’s so sleek xx

  • I’m so surprised how limited the colors are! It looks like a good foundation otherwise.

    • Yeah it is pretty shade, especially with the fact that I really love this brand.

  • I was really curious about this product due to the mixed reviews. I have never tested any Catrice base products because they have a poor selection of shades for people of colour like myself. It is a pitty that this product didn’t work out well for you because the price is really good. Better luck next time I guess. Thanks for the honest review,

    • Thank you Rivania, I am also pretty bummed about the poor shade selection I definitely think Catrice should be catering for us as well – there’s a huge part of the market that could do with this.

  • Sounds like it’s great foundation 🙂

  • I’m sorry this didn’t work out for you. I wish they did sell this brand in Canada because I am interested in trying out some of their other products.

  • I have always wanted to try a liquid foundation like this, except I like ones that give a dewy glow

    • Yip dewy finishes is all me! but, wanted to try this one anyway

  • Suze

It’s surprising how few skin shades they have! I tend to go for matte foundations but like trying out liquid ones too

    • Yeah its pretty shade that they have such a limited skin shade range

  • This sounds amazing, especially as I have oily skin. I love the packaging just wish it wasn’t a dropper dispenser. I hope Catrice come to the UK soon, a shame about the shade range, thank you for sharing Candice, hope you are well xxx

    • So weird that the UK doesn’t stock Catrice seeing that Catrice is actually a European brand.

      • Really? I thought it was owned by Eva Mendes therefore a US brand. I had no idea! I should have kept my eyes peeled in Portugal! Xx

        • HEHE Its actually same owners as Essence Cosmetics German/Dutch brand 🙂

  • Looks like a great foundation!

  • Ah this looks like such a great product – I love the look and sound of this and love liquid foundations so this is something that I’ll definitely look into.
