The app is well designed and easy to use.
Messages are not free.

Zoosk gives you free access to other user accounts and photos on a website or on a free smartphone app. According to the site, Zoosk uses an innovative matchmaking algorithm to provide the best matches for its 35 million users. This algorithm not only pairs you with the people you’re likely to get along with, but also gives you a relationship of dating insights, which is a thorough analysis of your dating profile and users who are interested in you.

To set up your dating profile fill in the basic information about your body type, race, upbringing and whether you have children. Once you upload a photo and verify your email you are given a short tour of the site before you can start searching for matches. You can also add up to six photos of yourself and answer questions about the type of companion you are looking for, which can really complete your profile. The whole process took only three minutes, so even if it is not very accurate and does not specifically ask what you are looking for in a companion, it’s easy and fast.

There is no possibility to match both men and women during setup, but bisexual users can contact customer service to create a second free account.

Zoosk app has a section to check your photos. This is reassuring as it helps reduce the likelihood of bots or scammers on the site. To verify your identity, just take a picture with your phone. Once approved, a small green badge appears on your profile to let others know that you are really a real person.

To view other potential matches, Zoosk has a “carousel” of other user profiles. Similar to Tinder, either you like it or steps to get to the next user, although there are additional options on the carousel, including saying “maybe “or clicking on a star that sends that person a” crush” to let him know that you are interested. While using the carousel is free, messaging any potential match requires the purchase of coins you can use to access various Zoosk features. For example, you can only scroll through the carousel for so long before the coins are needed to keep going. Coins can also be used to raise the profile so that it is more visible to other users.

Once you understand the carousel, Zoosk lets you know which users you liked. For our tests, we installed three accounts, and since matches only happen when two users resemble each other, we liked the first 30 accounts on the carousel for each account. On average we had two meetings in 24 hours, with the woman seeking man account getting the most, while the Man Seeking Woman account and woman seeking woman account brought the average down. Even though we couldn’t read them without paying, our accounts received an average of five messages each. These numbers are all low compared to other sites we tested as Elite Singles, which averaged 17 games in 24 hours.

The dating Insights feature is unique and gives you valuable information that you can use to increase the quality of your matches or even just learn a bit about yourself. While using the site to find matches, Zoosk collects information based on your behavior, who you are interacting with, and who you are looking at your profile. The data is then broken down into who you like, who you like and your dating style.

Deleting your account is easy to do, and blocking anyone who is inappropriate is also easy to do from the Posts section on the app and website. While this service is modern and easy to use, the limited matches we got and the lack of free messaging did not surprise us compared to the other options available.
